Crete Retreat

Yoga and meditation at Yoga Rocks

Norman Blair and Maitripushpa are revisiting Yoga Rocks in 2019

28 September - 5 October, 2019

About the retreat
Norman taking a class on the veranda
Practical, intelligent and with a sense of humour, Norman’s grasp of all things yogic is deep yet accessible. In London Norman teaches classes, workshops and teacher training courses as well as working with small groups of teachers who value his support and advice. Maitripushpa’s sunny and helpful outlook, along with her deep knowledge of all things meditational, completes this retreat mix.

Norman’s morning yoga classes are Ashtanga with love. He’s fond of props as well as explaining the detail in the yoga postures so you can feel fully supported, mentally and physically. These joyful asana classes wind round the Ashtanga primary series, though take a slower, more forgiving pace than traditional Ashtanga classes. With variations a plenty you are sure to carve out a comfortable and beneficial practice which really works for you – there is definitely room for manoeuvre.

In the yoga room
There are slow, juicy Yin Yoga sessions most afternoons where you will have chance to get intensely involved with each pose. Under Norman’s sensitive guidance you can recognise your edge and enjoy experimenting with subtle, and not so subtle sensations. He has recently finished a book combining his take 0n yoga philosophy with a fantastic practical guide to Yin Yoga, have a look here.

We are excited to welcome you to our new location in Agios Pavlos, a stunning bay with sparkling waters and a warm welcoming atmosphere. You may have visited on a previous stay with us - it is the next beach over the sand dunes from the wild/naked beach. There is more of a holiday vibe with umbrellas on the beach.

There is not such feeling of isolation as before with the retreat located within a bay that has two cafes and a taverna. However aside from having closer neighbors we are still in the middle of nowhere with deserted beaches just over the hill.

Even though the venue and setting will be a little bit different, we plan to provide the same feeling of coming back home to Yoga Rocks with the excitement of a new space. We'll have the same high quality food and team atmosphere. The rooms are comfortable and clean though smaller than the ones we had at our last venue. They do have breathtaking views and we are much closer to the sea - just a 2-3 min walk so jumping in first thing in the morning, straight after class or any time in fact will be so much easier. We'll have hammocks to relax in, and great company of course

Maitripushpa
Maitripushpa and Norman
Meditation with Maitripushpa is varied and can be a great introduction to meditation or an amazing opportunity for existing practitioners to develop. A couple of sessions each day allow her to tap into the vibe created by the asana classes. Guests drop deeply into themselves in her classes that may include body awareness, walking meditation, sitting or various contemplative practices.

Maitripushpa has a big Buddhist influence but years of study with varied traditions inform and enrich the meditation experience on this retreat.
